My cannas are taking over!!!!?

They are driving me crazy!!!! They keep spreading everywhere! I've tried digging them up but they're like possessed or something! They just keep popping up each year! Any advice?

My cannas are taking over!!!!?
they are like bulbs your going to have to dig up and look for them since the just keep growing.sorry but you got to dig and look for the bulbs I planted 6 now I got 40 you can transplant them some where eldes in the yard but you got to dig and find
Reply:You must thoroughly split off all the auxilliary bulbs that have multiplied over the years. Wait till they all come up so you can easily locate without tearing up the entire garden and hurting the established bulbs and plants you want.Give away the removed bulbs, let them dry in a cool dry place and give to friends.
Reply:Are you sure they are cannas? Cannas don't 'spread'.

They grow from a tuber and only increase by 2-3 baby tubers per season that are attached to mamma and the only way they can become separated from mamma is if you divide them, or break apart the tubers. They don't sound like cannas to me. Here in Ohio, they aren't perennials and the tubers have to be lifted and stored somewhere where they won't freeze and replanted outdoors every spring after the last frost. If they ARE cannas you must live in a warmer climate than Ohio (zone 5). If you want to eradicate them, dig up all the tubers and through them away or spray the foliage with Roundup, which kills any plant, so be careful of nearby plants.

If they ARE cannas and you'ver tried digging them up but they still come back, you're not getting ALL of the tubers and are leaving enough behind to make another plant.

We have a gardening group on Yahoo groups called therookiegardener with alot of experienced and inexperienced gardeners that share alot of advice and projects. Would love to have you if you're interested.
