MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE.
Something is eating.... what? If you can't see what it is during the day, guess what? Get your flashlight out %26amp; go have a look see around 11pm. Bet you find the munchers %26amp; just pluck un off and smush um.
Can't get any cheaper then that unless you use a kerosine lamp.
Something is eating my canna lilly's leaves how can i stop that for cheap?
Sprinkle the area with mothballs, not only keeps cats away but I had luck with aphids too.
Reply:fix up a solution of liquid soap (like Dawn) and warm water and wash them.
Reply:SLUGS !!! .....
Ground red pepper , soaked in water ... strain the water , and put it in a spray bottle , and spray the cannas well... You'll have to repeat
after rain... Also , sprinkle some red pepper on the ground around them ...
Reply:Soapy water in a spray bottle and spray the leaves. I have to say to anyone that thinks sevin is safe????? All you need is nitrates in your body, hot dogs, Bologna, sandwich meat and sevin on your hands and it is a carcinogen. It causes cancer so be careful out there for goodness sakes.
Reply:Use a spray bottle and mix one bottle of tobasco sauce with three cups of water. Spray the plants liberally.
Reply:What you use depends on what is eating them. Japanese beatles like canna leaves but they are not that easy to kill with sprays. If it is the beatle you can get traps and will be amazed by the sheer amount that it catches.
Reply:Go to walmart and buy Sevin dust in the lawn and garden dept. It shouldn't cost you more than $10. Just sprinkle it on your plants and the bugs will either die or stay away! It works really well. Remember to re-apply after rainshowers.
Reply:they sell shaker sevin dust at walmart!its about 3-4 dollars!it works great and is pet safe and human safe!
Reply:Why is everybody in such a hurry to squirt something on some poor plant in hopes of killing some unknown something?
Garden Dok is 100% right and we should all follow his advise. What's wrong with checking for a plant problem after dark? Sure seems a lot better then spraying crud all over the place. Garden Dok is a trained Master Gardener. Anything he has to say about plants we should listen to and be glad he took the time to enlighten us.
